Day 4 "Living"

This is definitely the coolest part of the trip so far.  I'm all about seeing what the regular people do in a culture.  I much rather live with people and walk the streets normally than visit tourist trap after tourist trap.  This is the closest that I was going to get to that.  That night our hotel was a resort of sorts.  The room was designed to be a really nice but ordinary Japanese room.  It was small, but what I expected.  Ok from this picture you can't really tell how big the room is.  I mean it's really not big at all, and this is supposed to be some sort of special "resort" room.  I'm not complaining about the size of the room but it really makes me think about why the Japanese don't have a lot of stuff and just live simple lives.  There's no room to put it!  I guess I'm spoiled by America's large seemingly never-ending space.  I mean if I run out of room in my house I can always just put stuff outside.  I have a garage and a lawn and if I need more space I can build a little shack outside.  It'll only cost me $80 or so at home depot.  Wait I know.  Here's a general layout of the room:

The little triangle gray shaded area is what you can see in the picture.  To further help you out I'm also including a picture of the layout of the room when I'm in it.  Yeah, you kind of see a problem.  Pity my parents.  I couldn't really fit into the bathroom so I kind of just stood in the walkway and aimed for the toilet that way.  ^_^  Did you know that most places in Japan the toilets are little more than porcelain holes in the ground?  Oh yeah you have to squat if you have to go.  Nothing to sit on.  I hope you've been practicing the Asian squat.  If you can't do it then when you go to Japan get very familiar with the location of every hotel because that's the only place that you might find a sitting toilet.

Ok one more shot of the room and the kimonos.  They're so awesome.  I can't believe they had one my size!

Deadjournal Entry for that day.
