Day 3 "The Hotel"

Day 3 we are in Tokyo.  We got in on the afternoon of day 2 and I think we checked in and slept until day 3.  I'm not sure but I don't have any pictures to show for any of the things I did so I'm assuming I slept.

Tokyo is not nearly as crowded as I had imagined.  I was expecting to have to throw some "bows" and to climb on top of people in order to get anywhere.  Sadly this is not the case.  Our hotel is beautiful.  In fact I'll just get this out of the way, all of our hotels are beautiful.  Everything is so freakin' clean and green.  They also have a fascination with rocks and such.  Again, and I can't emphasize this enough everything is really CLEAN.  So much so that I think the eating off the floor is ok (read: 5 min rule instead of 3 s. rule) because my hand is probably dirtier than the floor.

Thing is though when I'm floor dining (it's what I've come to call it) you get some really weird looks from the Japanese.  I later learn that in Japan "if you do something that we don't do you're weird and if you don't do something that we do you're weird."  Believe me, if the Japanese think you're weird you'll know it.  They'll just stare at you.  In America if you're staring at someone some black lady will pop out of no where and yell at you and tell you to mind your "own damn business."  Not in Japan though, there are no black ladies to yell for you.  You're on your own.  If you have all of Japan staring at you what are you going to do?  Tell you what I did, shrug, and keep doing it.  Nothin' like having an entire country at attention for you.  I'm a 6'3" Asian so you better believe I got stared at a lot.  I also do lots of weird and irrational nonsensical things.  Most people would stop because of embarrassment or something.  But I'm an American, I revel in dissonance.  No reason to fight, they are just being Japanese and I'm just being American.  That's culture shock, and if you hadn't noticed yet, that's also the name of this website*.  But back to thing I was talking about.

Look at that.  That's in the back of my hotel.  Look how green that is.  Ahhhhh.  It's just so calming.  It's nice to have something like that in your backyard.  Even if you do have to go down 26 floors to get to it.

*I used to have a website called "my-culture-shock.net" where this was hosted.
